A few days ago, I had the chance to speak at The Youth Creativity 1.0, an event put together by Black History Lifestyle and Awards. It held at Yabatech with over 500 students in the hall. The energy in the room was loud and hopeful. I shared the stage with people I admire like Bimpe, EmyKasbit, Wura, Demi and a few others. There were also government representatives present, including the Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and a delegate from Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu.

What stood out to me the most was the woman behind the event, Mrs _____. I only met her that day but you could feel her heart for the creative industry. She didn’t just bring people together; she gave out more than 300 gifts that could help these students start something meaningful: sewing machines, makeup kits, and many thoughtful tools. You don’t see that every day.

Now here’s the funny twist. I wasn’t expecting to be a speaker at all.

It started on a random Saturday. I had stopped by Nahous Lagos for an art exhibition. Then I went over to Latervana to grab some of the best pizza I’ve had in Lagos. I was sitting there, smoothie in hand, scrolling through TikTok, when a lady and a guy sitting across moved to the table beside me.

Next thing, TJ and Mojirade walked up to me. They recognized me from the exhibition and mentioned my outfit, which was thanks to Cigali Clothing. We started talking, and somewhere in the conversation, TJ asked a simple question: “What are you doing on the 3rd of December?”

That question led to me being on stage days later, looking out at hundreds of young creatives. Life works in quiet, unpredictable ways.

TJ, thank you for the opportunity.
And dear Mojirade, thank you for being such a kind presence.

I’m grateful to have been part of something that felt bigger than all of us.
